WHAT IS THE BFI SCREENWRITING ACADEMY?

Whether you’re a talented writer who has always fancied writing their own screenplays, or a passionate filmmaker desperate to hone their skills in screenwriting, the BFI Residential Programme in Screenwriting is the opportunity you’ve been looking for!

Hosted by Tyneside Cinema and BFI, the academy gives 25 of the most talented and committed young writers living in the UK the chance to develop their screenwriting talent and kick-start a career in the film industry!

They will gain the craft skills necessary to succeed as a screenwriter, get an exclusive insider’s view of how to break into the film business, and network with leading industry professionals. Better still, on completion of the programme, participants will be helped to secure a film-related work-placement to further develop their skills, knowledge and networks in the movie business.

The new programme is being delivered in three parts between January and February 2020, and includes an intensive weekend and week-long residential course at the historic Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Applications for the 2020 BFI Film Academy Residential Programme in Screenwriting are now open – click here for more information.
